The official American Bar Association (ABA) employment report for Cumberland School of Law’s class of 2021 has been released. Even while still battling challenges of the pandemic, the class of 2021’s eligible employment rate equaled 91.9%.  

 

This measure represents graduates who are eligible for employment up to 10 months following graduation. The percentage excludes graduates who are continuing their education in programs such as a Master of Laws (LL.M.). Other notable measures in the report showed an increase in median starting salary for the class.

 

Allen Howell, assistant dean of external relations and career development said, “I am incredibly proud of the class of 2021’s employment statistics, including many notable increases from previous years. They worked hard through the challenges presented by the pandemic. The class of 2021 can be found across employment sectors from law firms and judicial clerkships to government and business in industry. I know they’re already representing Cumberland well in their communities and making a difference.”

 

In addition to the hard work of the class of during their time at Cumberland, Howell attributed the success of the class to the collective work of the law school’s faculty and staff.

 

“Cumberland’s faculty and staff were huge factors in helping the class secure successful placement,” Howell said. “Our supportive community culture has a huge impact on important measures such as the employment rate for each class. Our faculty and staff go above and beyond to make sure each student is ready for success in the legal workforce.”

 

With dedicated students, involved alumni and with the continued support of the faculty and staff, Howell is confident employment rates for future graduating classes will continue to excel.

 

“The legal job market is going very strong and there is plenty of reason for optimism about the class of 2022,” Howell said.

 

Dean Corky Strickland also commented on the employment success of the 2021 graduates.

 

“These positive employment numbers are evidence our graduates’ and career development staff’s hard work, a strong legal employment market, and strong demand for Cumberland graduates,” he said.
