Emily Bonds Davey has joined the Cumberland School of Law faculty as a visiting assistant professor and director of the externship program. In her role, she will oversee the externship program, teach the Externship course each semester and teach a section of first-year Contracts.
Davey brings a wealth of experience along with tremendous connections with the Alabama State Bar and the Birmingham Bar Association. She has practiced law in Birmingham for more than 30 years, with varied experience in both personal injury and commercial litigation. After having been an advocate in numerous mediations, she was led to become trained as a mediator. She believes her mediation practice pairs well with her litigation experience to help bring parties together to resolve issues.
Davey is active in the community serving on the Board of Directors of the ALS Association of Alabama and the Board of the Birmingham Bar Association Women Lawyer’s Section. She is also a member of the Alabama Academy of Attorney Mediators.
Prior to being appointed to her full-time role on the faculty, Davey was a partner at Jones Walker LLP and served as an adjunct professor at Cumberland School of Law.
Originally from Jacksonville, Alabama, Davey received her bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State University and her law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law.
“I am excited that Emily is joining us this year,” said Dean Corky Strickland. “She has an impeccable reputation as a great lawyer, and her relationships in the bar will be a huge benefit as we grow our externship program. Having worked with her in our Negotiation Workshop several years ago, I also know that she has a gift for conveying to law students the wisdom of her experience.”
