Originally from Carrollton, Georgia, Tona Hitson attended the University of Georgia, where she earned her BBA in finance at UGA's Terry College of Business. She then attended Cumberland School of Law where she earned her Juris Doctor.
While in law school, Hitson was on the Dean’s List, clerked with the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Northern District of Alabama, served as managing editor of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy, worked as a student member of the Center for Law and Civic education, and was a member of the Honor Court.
After law school, Hitson worked for a lobbying firm in Washington, D.C. She returned to Birmingham to work for a local litigation firm and then worked as associate counsel for AIG Baker Properties LLC. After several years serving as her household manager and caretaker of four beautiful children, she has returned to serve as the director of student services at Cumberland.
