Will Dorton joined the Cumberland School of Law faculty in 2024 where he teaches courses on Business Organizations, Securities Regulation and Contracts. Prior to joining the Cumberland faculty, he served as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law in Lexington, Kentucky.
Professor Dorton received his undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis and his legal education at the University of Kentucky College of Law. After law school, he practiced corporate law for over a decade in various capacities: working at international law firms where he assisted clients in structuring and executing various corporate transactions and advised businesses from start-ups to mature public companies on capital raising, governance, disclosure, financing and other matters; serving as a staff attorney in the financial services group within the Division of Corporation Finance at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C., and advising senior executives and the board of directors of a NYSE-listed company as in-house counsel.
Professor Dorton’s research interests include matters concerning corporate governance and securities disclosure and their relationship with financial reality and the dynamic relationships between various corporate constituencies.
