Dear Alumni,
It is my pleasure to introduce Cumberland School of Law’s class of 2024! On August 9, we welcomed 160 intelligent, engaging, and motivated 1L students to campus, and the Office of Admission has worked tirelessly to ensure orientation was fun and informative for our new students. The class of 2024 met with their first-year professors, heard from various Cumberland offices, and received advice and a welcome to the Cumberland community from Judge Nhan-Ai Simms ‘08. Each day included a host of activities to ensure each student’s success and aid in establishing lifelong friendships. On the third and final day, the students heard from Samford University’s new president, Beck A. Taylor, and volunteered their time to several local service projects, which helped instill Cumberland’s ongoing commitment to public service.
The class of 2024 represents 15 states, 58 undergraduate colleges and universities, and 43 college majors. The incoming class is breaking many barriers, including increasing entering credentials, the highest minority percentage recorded for Cumberland, and the highest percentage of female students. The average age is 23, the group is 59% female and 41% male, and 24% are underrepresented minorities. They have played collegiate sports, earned master’s degrees, served in the military, lived abroad, volunteered in their communities, and, in three years, they will join you as alumni of Cumberland School of Law. The incoming class also has impressive credentials, increasing our medians to a 154 on the LSAT and a 3.54 for undergraduate cumulative GPA. We are very excited see what they will accomplish in the future.
Please help us welcome our new class to the Cumberland community by mentoring, coaching, or supervising them in your offices. I want to encourage you to continue being our top source of referrals, because our alumni are our best ambassadors. As always, thank you for staying involved with our students and investing in Cumberland’s future.
Warmest regards,
Whitney Dachelet, J.D.
