Samford’s Honors College Experience. Fides. Ratio. Virtus.
University Fellows is convinced that before knowing what it is our students will do with their lives, it is critical to consider how to live well as a human created in the image of God. As seen in our motto, “Fides (Faith). Ratio (Reason). Virtus (Virtue).,” the University Fellows Program seeks to educate students holistically, focusing on their spiritual, intellectual, and moral formation.
This goal is pursued through a curriculum that offers students the opportunity to engage with some of the greatest minds in the Western, Christian intellectual tradition and to grapple with questions humans have perennially asked about the essence of the self/soul, the universe and humanity’s place in it, how best to live harmoniously with others, and the nature of the relationship between humans and the divine. Classes are Socratic in style, and students are encouraged to lead and guide the discussion.
University Fellows also offers international study in Italy and funding for academic enrichment. Admission is highly competitive, so the Program is looking for intellectually curious, ambitious students who desire to challenge themselves, to learn in community with like-minded men and women, and to lead purposeful and meaningful lives. University Fellows is open to entering freshmen with an interest in any of Samford’s undergraduate majors.
