Samford University’s annual Leadership Forum welcomed hundreds on Friday, Nov. 8, to honor the efforts of the university’s leaders and friends.
The forum recognizes the work of hundreds of individuals who serve as trustees, members of the board of overseers, advisory boards from each of Samford’s 10 academic units, the athletics council, the Legacy League, alumni associations, the board of ministerial mentors, along with student and faculty leaders and university administrators.
Each year the forum, held during Homecoming weekend, provides insight into the university community. Bill Stevens, chair of the board of trustees, noted the common thread between all those in attendance and beyond.
“It is our mutual commitment to Samford that calls us here today as we focus on the volunteers who stand together to support the university’s mission to nurture persons For God. For Learning. Forever,” he said.
The program spotlighted three groups of volunteers vital to the success of the university: alumni, parents and the Samford Legacy League. The keynote address was delivered by Jeanna Westmoreland, executive director of the Legacy League.
Three alumni, Stephen Dillard, Larry Kloess and Karen Carlisle also spoke on volunteerism. Dillard is the president of the Samford Alumni Association, Kloess is the president of the Young Alumni Board of Nashville and Carlisle is the vice president of programs for the Legacy League.
This is the fourth year of the forum, first held in 2015.
