It is no secret that Step Sing is one of Samford University’s most beloved traditions. The themes, the competition and the Saturday night show are parts of Step Sing to which the audience and participants look forward. 

One equally important aspect of the show is the philanthropy that is featured each year. Part of the friendly competition among participants is providing financial support for worthy organizations that reflect the Samford mission. 

Paige Acker, Samford’s director of student activities and events, said she wants all the Samford community to have a voice in suggesting this year’s philanthropy. Alumni, current students, employees and parents all have a say in the organization picked as the philanthropy. 

“Our 2018 leadership team is really focused on bringing more awareness to and highlighting our philanthropy,” Acker said. “We invite all involved in the Samford community to nominate an organization they’re passionate about.” 

The form can be found at samford.edu/stepsing. The nominations will remain open through Sunday, Oct. 15.

Last year, participants raised a record $14,000 for Shauna's House, one of 5 transition homes for Ukrainian orphanage graduates through Lifesong for Orphans. The facility is named for the late Shauna Yelton, Samford's former director of health services and the wife of Samford's head soccer coach.
