Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law and the Birmingham Bar Foundation invite guests to observe the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals and the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals in a unique day of oral arguments on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Samford’s Leslie S. Wright Center.
Seating begins at 8:30 a.m., and the call to order will be at 9:10 a.m. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
Approximately 750 students from area high schools and colleges will be in attendance. To prepare, the students have heard presentations by Birmingham Bar Foundation members who discussed the cases that will be heard and explained oral arguments and appellate procedure.
Participating schools include Pelham High School, Tabernacle Christian School, Evangel Classical Christian, the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Department of Government, Tarrant High School, Woodlawn High School, Ramsay High School, Center Point High School, Providence Classical School, Hudson K-8 School, Wenonah High School, Huffman High School, Helena High School, Homewood High School, Bessemer Center for Technology and Robert C. Hatch High School.
Students from Samford University and Cumberland School of Law will also be in attendance.
The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals will hear arguments in Jefferson County Board of Health & Drummond Coal Company d/b/a ABC Coke v. GASP at 9:30 a.m.
The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals will hear arguments in David Martin Mogil v. State of Alabama at 10:45 a.m.
