Birmingham’s American Advertising Federation chapter has honored recent Samford University graduate Halley Smith with their 2015 Student of the Year Award. Smith was honored for her extensive advertising contributions throughout this past year as a part of the Ten Awards event hosted by the federation.
Smith was nominated for the award by Samford journalism and mass communication faculty member Betsy Emmons. Emmons said Smith was the ideal candidate for this award because of her high level of work and her numerous advertising and journalism leadership positions.
Smith’s collegiate resume included serving two terms as president for Samford’s American Advertising Federation chapter, belonging to a team that received national recognition for an advertising competition with Taziki’s Mediterranean Café and acting as an adviser in the National Student Advertising Competition.
On June 9, Smith was honored along with other local advertisers as a part of the Ten Awards. The Ten Awards were held to recognize Birmingham advertisers who work in the sales and service side of the industry.
