Samford will induct approximately 120 freshman into the Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) national honor society March 25. Founded in 1924, ALD seeks to "encourage superior academic achievement... to promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their unique roles in society."
Membership in the organization is awarded to students who earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class during their first term of full-time college enrollment. For Samford’s freshman class, that meant that the 2015-2016 initiates earned grade point averages of 3.69 or better.
Samford is a leading Christian university offering undergraduate programs grounded in the liberal arts with an array of nationally recognized graduate and professional schools. Founded in 1841, Samford is the 87th-oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. Samford enrolls 6,101 students from 45 states, Puerto Rico and 16 countries in its 10 academic schools: arts, arts and sciences, business, divinity, education, health professions, law, nursing, pharmacy and public health. Samford fields 17 athletic teams that compete in the tradition-rich Southern Conference and ranks 6th nationally for its Graduation Success Rate among all NCAA Division I schools.
