Samford University School of Education May 2014 graduate Hannah Chandlee of Atlanta, Ga., has been awarded the Outstanding Undergraduate Paper Award from the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). This is the third year in a row a Samford student has won this prestigious award.
Chandlee and her paper, “Parental Chronic Illness and Young Adult Women’s Psychological Stress,” will be recognized at the NCFR annual conference in November in Baltimore, Md.
Samford human development and family life education chair Kristie Chandler said the award is an honor for Chandlee and the entire department since each student in the department is required to complete an original research project before graduating.
“When one of our students succeeds, we all succeed,” Chandler said. “We’re so proud of Hannah’s work and although teaching research to undergraduates has unique challenges, the research emphasis is why our alumni report they are much better prepared in graduate school than their classmates.”
Chandlee said she was honored and humbled to receive the award and cited her professors for their supervision during the process. “I would not have been as successful without the support from Drs. Jonathan Davis and Kristie Chandler,” Chandlee said. “They were always there to listen to my questions and provide feedback.”
Chandlee graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in human development and family science with a child life concentration degree. She now works as a behavior therapist at Miletsones Behavior Consulting.
