Registration is underway for spring classes in Samford University's popular Samford After Sundown (SAS) program of professional and personal development courses. Courses begin on various dates throughout late winter and spring.
SAS includes more than 50 courses in the areas of arts and humanities, fitness and recreation, home arts, language and photography. Some of the more unique topics for spring are art journaling, linoleum block printing, painting horses from photographs, creating a website with WordPress, creating fine-art prints and canvases, and preparing for travel in Italy.
Recurring courses that have appealed to SAS students for decades include the afternoon antiques class taught by longtime instructor Daniel F. Brooks, an interior design and decoration class taught by veteran Birmingham interior designer Clarence A. Brooks II, and a retirement planning class led by financial advisor Stuart Benjamin.
SAS also offers courses that lead to Alabama Naturalist, pharmacy technician, healthcare interpreter and photography certificates. An additional 300 online courses, including General Educational Development and Graduate Record Examinations preparation, are available.
The wide variety of courses makes it easy for almost anyone to pursue a subject of interest, points out SAS director Suzanne Montgomery.
"Many courses, such as those in art and photography, help students develop their creativity," said Montgomery. "Other classes, including those in the certificate programs, assist students in career development."
Most courses meet in the evenings for about six weeks.
