In anticipation of holiday purchases, the Tuesday, Nov. 17, meeting of the Birmingham Astronomical Society will offer tips on how to select and buy a telescope. The public is invited to the meeting, held at 7 p.m. in the Christenberry Planetarium in Samford University’s Propst Hall.

Because many people like to buy telescopes for Christmas presents, the Society devotes its November meeting each year to the topic, says BAS member and planetarium director George Atchley.

BAS members will bring their telescopes to the meeting in order to answer questions and demonstrate the various types that are available.

For information, contact Atchley at (205) 726-4139.
