Samford's School of the Arts will present its annual Faculty Gala recital Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Brock Recital Hall.
The traditional opening event of the School of the Arts season will include music for instrument and voice from the 17th to the 20th centuries. Selections will include traditional spirituals and works by James A. Jensen, Giacomo Puccini, Tzu-Ling Sarana Chou, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Korngold, Robert Schumann, Maury Yeston, Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, Gaetano Donizetti, Giuseppi Verdi, Camille Saint-Saëns and Guiseppi Tartini.
A brief recital of classical and traditional popular music performed on Samford's Rushton Memorial Carillon will precede the Gala at 7 p.m. The famous bells may be heard throughout the university Quadrangle.
The event is free-of-charge and open to the public.
