Dr. John J. Collins, Holmes Professor of Old Testament Criticism and Interpretation at Yale Divinity School, will deliver the Ray Frank Robbins Lecture at Samford University Thursday, March 26.
He will speak at 10 a.m. in Reid Chapel on "How To Read an Apocalypse." The public is invited free.
Collins is the author of 17 books on theology and history, the most recent being The Bible After Babel, Historical Criticism in a Postmodern Age (Eerdmans Press, 2005). He also has published more than 200 articles for scholarly journals.
At Yale since 2000, Collins also has taught at the University of Chicago Divinity School, University of Notre Dame and other schools. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from University College Dublin and the Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures from Harvard University.
The late Ray Frank Robbins was a longtime professor at New Orleans Baptist Seminary who began his academic career teaching at Samford. He held the Ph.D. degree from New College in Edinburgh, Scotland.
