Samford University senior graphic design major Jessika Mejia took Best in Show at the school's 2009 Earth Day art show. Mejia won for her acrylic painting, Red Apples 2.
The painting and the work of other Earth Day art contest winners will be on display in Samford's Davis Library through May 1.
Virginia Kelser Jones, a Samford After Sundown photography student, won second place for her digital photograph, A Foggy Day in Birmingham.
Pam Pullen, also a Samford After Sundown photography student, won third place for Afternoon Delight, a digital print from Velvia 50 slide film.
Honorable mention awards went to two Samford employees: religion professor Dr. David Bains for his digital photograph, Mt. Redoubt, Eagle, Transfiguration (Alaska); and university relations electronic news editor Sean Flynt for his gelatin silver print, Alabama Wall.
The art show is part of a series of lectures and other events held at the school during April in observance of Earth Day.
