Samford University students were recognized for top scholarship and service at a special awards convocation Tuesday (APRIL 23).

Blake Kersey of Paducah, Ky., received the John R. Mott Award as the male in the senior class judged to represent the highest type of student service.

Ginger McCarthy of Florence received the Gail Hyle Award in recognition of Christian character, leadership, school spirit and service.

Taylor Heard of Macon, Ga., received the James M. Sizemore Award as the senior who best demonstrates loyalty and service to the University.

Tara Taylor of McKinney, Texas, received the Service Award in recognition of special service to the University.

William Lee Grisham of Savannah, Tenn., and Jordan Anne Guthrie of Dyersburg, Tenn., received the Rufus W. Shelton community service awards.

R.G. Lyons of Centre and Bethany Pennington of Hendersonville, Tenn., received the Luke 2:52 awards given to two students who excel in all areas of student life: academic, social, spiritual and physical.

Taretha Ann Robinson of Clanton received the James L. Treadway Award, given to a graduating senior in the Metro College evening program who has exhibited outstanding academic ability, service and leadership skills.

Bradley Scott McPherson of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., received the John C. Pittman Award as the student displaying the best example of leadership, academic excellence and Christian commitment.

Allison Atwood of Ridgeland, Miss., received the Hypatia Cup for outstanding scholarship, service and leadership.

Pamela White of St. Louis, Mo., received the Maria Leonard Book Award as the graduating member of Alpha Lambda Delta honor society with the highest grade point average.
