Samford University’s School of Health Professions has received full accreditation for its Master of Science in speech language pathology program from Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The program received full accreditation for five years, which is the maximum length of time for initial full accreditation. Of particular distinction, the program was found to be in full compliance with all accreditation standards.
The speech language pathology program, housed within the school’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, seeks to prepare highly qualified speech language pathologist with the skills, compassion and motivation to make a difference in their community. The program currently has 37 students and is in its fourth year.
“This accomplishment is a true testament of the hard work, perseverance and a distinct dedication to excellence that is realized in the faculty, staff and students of our speech language pathology program,” said Alan Jung, professor and School of Health Professions dean.
The program is one of only two private speech language pathology programs in the state. It offers a unique faith-based academic course work that is founded on School of Health Profession’s theme verse 1 Peter 4:10, encouraging students to utilize their gifts and talents to serve others.
“We are thrilled to have reached this milestone,” said Margaret Johnson, professor and communication sciences and disorders chair. “We will continue to reach for excellence and produce speech language pathologists who are prepared to impact the lives of many people in truly meaningful ways.”
Admission into the two-year program is competitive. Prospective students are invited to join the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders for an open house Sept. 13 or Nov. 8.
