Wes Johnson comes to Samford University from Island Medical Management where he served as the Director of Clinical Education for the company’s Huntsville Division. Prior to that he worked exclusively in Emergency Medicine as a physician assistant and Children’s Hospital as a respiratory therapist in the special care unit. During his time in emergency medicine he received further training in advanced burn, trauma, and wilderness life support.
Wes has always enjoyed teaching and precepted students from multiple programs in the emergency department. His passion for education led him to return to school to complete his doctoral work where he focused on interprofessional medical education. In 2018 he decided to make the transition into full-time academics and joined the faculty at Samford University.
Wes enjoys hiking, kayaking, camping, Alabama football and Samford basketball. He and his wife Emily live in Indian Springs village with their two children, Addy and Chipper.
