Scott Bickel joined the Department of Physical Therapy in 2016. Previously Bickel served in faculty positions at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His teaching and research is primarily in the areas of skeletal muscle physiology, exercise, and neuromuscular electrical stimulation, as they all relate to people with physical disabilities. He has received funding from both federal and non-federal agencies to support his research and regularly presents at local, national, and international meetings. Bickel has spent significant time in China teaching and training rehabilitation professionals.
