A native of Elkhart, Indiana, Gunnar earned his BA in print journalism with a German minor from Samford in 2021. During his time as a student, he served as the sports editor for The Samford Crimson, where he developed a passion for storytelling and reporting, particularly in regard to athletics and history. He was also a punter on the Samford football team and actively participated in the Catholic Student Association and German Club.
Before returning to Samford, he gained experience in marketing and communications across various roles. Most recently, he served as the communications and marketing manager at Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana. He also held key positions at STEPS Ministries, a Birmingham-based nonprofit dealing with addiction and recovery, and Sacred Heart Schools in Chicago.
In his free time, he enjoys traveling, playing soccer and basketball, eating BBQ and hiking at Red and Ruffner Mountains in Birmingham.
He resides in Homewood with his Siamese cat, Beauregard, and his Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix, Winnie.
