Kate McCombs, assistant professor of management, has been named the new program coordinator for the Brock Scholars program in Samford University’s Brock School of Business. The school’s honors initiative is designed for high-achieving undergraduate students who are eager to go beyond the traditional business curriculum while working toward their degree.

McCombs steps into the role following the remarkable 11-year leadership of Sara McCarty, who recently moved into a new role as associate dean of Brock School of Business. Under McCarty’s guidance, the Brock Scholars program became a hallmark of academic excellence and purpose-driven leadership within the school.

“Working with Brock Scholars for over a decade was a wonderful experience for me,” McCarty said. “The students are curious and ambitious, a superb combination. I will miss working with the Brock Scholars so closely going forward, but I am thrilled that Dr. McCombs will serve as program coordinator. She is a phenomenal scholar and teacher. She has fantastic ideas for the program and a proven record of working with these remarkable students.”

Now, McCombs brings a new chapter of energy, experience and vision to the program.

“I’m honored to step into the role of coordinator for the Brock Scholars program, which exists to fuel curiosity and empower students to think beyond the traditional business track,” she said. “Thanks to Dr. McCarty’s leadership in recent years, the program is already incredibly strong, and I’m excited to build on that foundation, especially by expanding international and travel components that give students the chance to explore the world as part of their learning journey. Let’s get curious!”

The Brock Scholars program offers an enhanced academic experience including honors seminars, faculty mentorship, research opportunities and leadership development—all with an emphasis on integrating faith, business and global impact.
