The North American Case Research Association (NACRA) is the leading organization of case based researchers, writers and teachers, mostly in the business disciplines. In late 2021, Kay Guess, retired professor of accounting in Samford’s Brock School of Business, was named a NACRA Fellow, the highest honor bestowed upon its members.

The award is given to someone who has distinguished him or herself through service to NACRA and lifelong achievement in case research, writing and teaching. Guess was a reviewer for the conference for more than 20 years, served a combined 14 years on the organization’s Executive Board, and serves on NACRA’s Foundation Board.

In previous years, Guess was the runner-up for the organization’s Tate Award, received the Silver Award for the best case presented at the conference, received the Corporate Governance Award and, in 2019, was the recipient of the President’s Outstanding Service Award.

One of her nominators stated that she was a “conscientious steward of NACRA's finances and handled the large workload of routine and non-routine tasks with integrity." Another said, “She is a repository of NACRA's institutional knowledge, including the justification for our processes and procedures.”

“Dr. Guess being named a NACRA Fellow caps an incredible career that has impacted the Brock School and our accounting program in significant and meaningful ways,” said Dean Chad Carson.

In summer 2021, Brock School of Business announced a scholarship endowment honoring her impactful career. Funds given to the scholarship will extend her legacy on and off campus.
