Professor Archie Lockamy will retire from Samford University following the spring 2022 semester. In recognition of his impactful career, Motion has endowed a new scholarship to be awarded to students studying in the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) program.
Lockamy, the Margaret Gage Push professor of business and professor of operations management, has served as a member of the Brock School of Business faculty since 2000. Over the years, his serviced has helped strengthen the M.B.A. program, particularly through his role as chair of the Graduate Education Process Committee. In addition, he has been a tremendous asset to the Executive Education program, having led the development of key aspects of Motion’s annual Management Development Seminar.
Greg Cook, Motion’s chief financial officer and executive vice president, played a key role in securing support for this scholarship.
“On behalf of all of my colleagues at Motion, we are proud to establish this new scholarship in honor of Professor Lockamy,” Cook said. “His leadership has not only had a positive impact on our company, but on many careers of those who have graduated from Samford. It’s our honor to help continue his legacy in this way.”
With degrees in chemical engineering, finance and quantitative methods, and operations management, Lockamy has been a sought-after expert in the supply chain management and business logistics space throughout his career.
He is the author of Global Logistics: Managing the Product-Delivery System, and co-author of Re-engineering Performance Measurement: How To Align Systems To Improve Processes, Products and Profits. In addition, he has had his work published in national and international journals including the International Journal of Production Research, the International Journal of Logistics Management, and the Journal of Systems Improvement, to name just a few.
He served on the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award via appointment by the U.S. Department of Commerce from 1997 through 2002. He also served as vice president of the Board of Directors of the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) Educational and Research Foundation, is a Certified Fellow in Production and Inventory Management by APICS and is certified as an Academic Jonah by The Avraham Y. Goldratt Institute.
At Samford, he has been a recipient of many Brock School of Business and university faculty awards, including being a recipient of the university’s top award for scholarship, the Outstanding Scholarship Award, in 2019.
“It is truly humbling and a blessing to be acknowledged in this manner,” Lockamy said. “I want to also thank Mr. Greg Cook for all his efforts on my behalf, along with others who deemed my contributions to the organization worthy of this level of recognition. I am most thankful that I will continue to have a positive impact on future generations of M.B.A. students via the generous gift given by Motion to the scholarship fund.”
