Samford University’s Brock School of Business has announced a newly established scholarship endowment which will honor longtime accounting professor Kay Guess who will retire following the summer 2021 semester. The scholarship will be awarded to deserving students majoring in accounting.

Professor Guess has served on the Brock School of Business faculty as a professor of accounting on two separate occasions – first from 1993 until 1997 and again beginning in August 2012. She was instrumental in creating many of the cornerstone aspects of the accounting program during her first stint on the faculty. Her efforts led to the creation of the first Accounting Advisory Board and the implementation of the Accounting Program Awards Banquet.

Dean Chad Carson shared, “Kay’s tireless efforts to expose our students to the accounting professional community are still paying dividends for our students almost 30 years later. Today, accounting firms spend many hours heavily recruiting our students—that certainly was not the case back in the 90s, but Dr. Guess was a staunch advocate for our students and our program. Her vision for our accounting program has been realized and our students are the real beneficiaries. Funds supporting the new scholarship will create a lasting legacy to a friend, professor, mentor and colleague who has meant so much to so many.”
