Accounting Students 2019

Students who sat for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in 2018 from Samford University’s accounting program once again ranked #1 in the state of Alabama among first-time test takers holding a bachelor’s degree. The program has achieved this ranking four of the last five years. This achievement has placed Samford’s program in the top 9% of all accounting programs in the country.

The rankings, compiled by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), were reported in December 2019 for the previous year’s cycle.

These achievements are partially attributed to the highly relational nature of a Samford education. The faculty are committed to upholding superb academic standards and implementing experiential learning opportunities while building lasting relationships with their students.

“My educational preparation through the accounting program at Brock School of Business was everything I needed to succeed professionally,” said alumnus Gunnar Bromelow, senior associate at Ernst & Young. “It not only assisted me in earning my CPA but has since extended beyond the classroom to an evolved, ongoing relationship in my professional career at Ernst & Young."

Alan Blankley, professor and chair of the accounting department in Brock School of Business, praised the students for their outstanding performance and work ethic. He, too, believes that Samford’s program is unique because of the excellent faculty and their commitment to helping students succeed.

“For our accounting program to be ranked #1 in the state and in the top 9% percent of all programs in the country is a true testament to the dedication of our faculty,” interim Dean Chad Carson added. “They work hard every day to ensure our students’ success and that the relationships remain after a student leaves Brock School of Business.”

“I cannot thank Brock School of Business enough for their integral role in guiding me to where I am today, and I hope to stay close to its encouraging community moving forward,” Bromelow closed.
