Samford University’s Brock School of Business professor Archie Lockamy, the Margaret Gage Bush professor of business, received the Outstanding Scholarship Award at Samford’s opening convocation on August 27. 

Only the second year for this distinguished award, the recognition honors full-time faculty who make a significant and sustained scholarly contribution to their discipline over the course of their career. 

“I am thrilled and honored to have received this award,” Lockamy said. “To receive such recognition at the university level just shows that all of the hard work pays off.”

Lockamy added that this award was extra special to him. “I’m being recognized for scholarly activity, not just as a business professor, but as a university scholar. It doesn’t get any better than that.”

Lockamy noted his recent research that he’s been working on includes leading-edge concepts that he immediately transfers to the classroom, research he’s completed with his former graduate students, and interdisciplinary research.

“I really value interdisciplinary research,” Lockamy noted. “This type of work allows me to help students understand how my discipline [operations management] not only relates to other areas of business, but also how the concepts and principles associated with my discipline can be applied to other fields of study.”

“Dr. Lockamy has been a leader in research and scholarly activity within our business school and is an internationally acclaimed scholar in his field. I’m happy that the University has recognized his outstanding achievements,” said interim dean Chad Carson. “His research efforts allow our students to get the benefit of learning key operations management concepts that are research and practice based. Dr. Lockamy’s work contributes greatly to the teaching and research centered culture within the Brock School of Business.”
