On November 5, Samford University held its annual service awards luncheon to honor employees and their dedicated years of service. This year, six Brock School of Business faculty and staff members were recognized.
Receiving recognition for five years of service were Clif Eason, Kim Eckert and Matt Mazzei. Eason serves as assistant professor of marketing and the leader of the professional sales program. Under his leadership the professional sales program consistently ranks in the top sales programs in country by the Sales Education Foundation. And, in October, Eason led the professional sales national competition team to the final rounds of the AT&T B2B National Sales Competition.
Eckert, one of the newest members of the Brock School of Business staff, is no stranger to Samford. She serves Brock School of Business as the administrative assistant to the dean. She formerly served the university as an administrative assistant to the pharmacy faculty, an administrative assistant to pharmacy practice department chair, and as the coordinator for the Center for Faith and Health in the College of Health Sciences.
Mazzei, assistant professor of strategic management, has taught a variety of management and entrepreneurship courses at both Samford and Auburn University, including topics on strategic management, corporate entrepreneurship/innovation management, project management, organizational change and big data strategy. His research primarily focuses on corporate entrepreneurship, with secondary interests in new venture characteristics and big data analytics at the macro level.
Professor of Accounting Lowell Broom was honored for 10 years of service. He joined the Brock School of Business faculty in 2008 where he served as the chair of the department of accounting and management information systems until 2015. Early in his career he was a part of the professional audit staff on the “Ernst” side of what is now Ernst & Young in Jackson, Mississippi. He has served as a consultant to several organizations during his academic career and has developed and taught numerous CPE courses for accounting professionals throughout the southeastern United States.
Barbara Cartledge received recognition for 15 years of dedicated service to the university. Cartledge is assistant dean of academic programs where she directs the academic advising of 650 undergraduate business majors and 150 graduate students. She also oversees the school’s Office of Professional Success. Also, as an assistant professor, Cartledge teaches the World of Business course which each undergraduate student takes during the spring of their freshman year.
Lastly, Bill Service was honored for 25 years of service in his role as professor of management. In his prior career, he was a vice president for TRW in Dallas, Texas where he led 250 managers, programmers and analysts under a $15 million annual budget. He serves on several Journal review boards and speaks about management and leadership to many organizations annually.
"You cannot have a great organization without great people," said Dean Howard Finch. "These dedicated employees have a tremendous impact on the academic success and operational efficiency of the Brock School of Business. We are fortunate to have them as part of our team."
