Michael P. Knowles will deliver the annual William E. Conger Biblical Preaching Lectures at Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School, Feb. 1-3.
A distinguished scholar of preaching and an ordained minister in the Anglican Church of Canada, Knowles will give two lectures: “Preaching Crucifixion” and “Preaching Resurrection” on Feb. 2 and 3, respectively, at 11 a.m. in Divinity Hall N-101. These lectures help further Beeson Divinity’s objective to train “pastors who can preach.”
Additionally, Knowles will preach during the school’s community worship service on Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. in Hodges Chapel a sermon called, “Beautiful Scars” and will give a lunch lecture sponsored by the Robert Smith Jr. Preaching Institute on Feb. 2 at Noon in Divinity Hall N-101 called, “‘Our Citizenship is in Heaven’: Reflections on Theological Homelessness.”
Knowles has taught at McMaster Divinity College in Ontario, Canada since 1997, offering courses in pastoral theology, preaching and biblical studies in a way that seeks to integrate sound biblical exegesis, Christian spirituality and practical application for the life and ministry of the Christian community. Prior to McMaster, Knowles served as assistant director of the Wycliffe College Institute of Evangelism between 1991 and 1997.
A graduate of Wycliffe College in Toronto, Canada, Knowles is the author of six books including: The Folly of Preaching: Models and Methods, We Preach Not Ourselves: Paul on Proclamation, The Unfolding Mystery of the Divine Name: The God of Sinai in Our Midst, Of Seeds and the People of God: Preaching as Parable, Crucifixion, and Testimony, and Third Voice: Preaching Resurrection.
