Samford School of the Arts building, Buchanan Hall, completed a transformative 18-month renovation in Spring 2022, including the addition of the brand-new Eleanor Ousley Recording Studio. The studio has given students the opportunity to mix and create music from scratch.
Several students in the commercial music program will be releasing singles and EPs completely recorded in the new studio! As the first student to release a single recorded in the studio, sophomore commercial music major, Kacie Bell shares her inspiration behind her song October.
“I wanted to create something that sounded cold,” said Kacie. “Like the first bit of fall wind that comes in when the sun is still out.”
Kacie had dreamed of recording in the studio in Buchanan since the first day she saw it. It wasn’t long until she made her dream a reality. As she began her journey of recording October, she spent all day behind the board of the studio with her professor, Steven Potaczek, running tracks and collaborating with her friends.
She started playing the piano to create the melody, then sprinkled in the lyrics. To cultivate a nostalgic, acoustic vibe, she decided to play the final version on her guitar.
October drops on Friday, Oct. 13, 2023 and will be available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, and you can visit her website to learn more about her music!
On the evening of her single release on Oct. 13, Kacie will perform her song on stage at the Montague Rocks the Planetarium concert at Christenberry Planetarium. More info here!
