Be Part of a Samford Legacy
The Samford University athletic band supports university athletic teams, provides entertainment for our fans and builds positive community relations for the athletics department and the university band program. The athletic band also seeks to improve student’s musical skills, to provide performance opportunities, to enhance the overall quality of time spent in the university environment for its members and to develop leadership skills to transfer into their academic and professional lives.
The Samford athletic band rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5:50 p.m. and on Fridays from 4:30 to 5:50 p.m. We perform at all home football games, one away game and a high school marching exhibition in the fall. Membership is open to anyone with previous band experience; marching experience is not necessary and no audition is required for the ensemble! Scholarships are available by audition.
Samford University Auxiliary Team
The Auxiliary Team is part of the Samford Marching Band and is not a competitive dance team. Its purpose is to support the visual identity of the marching band and to provide students with an opportunity to participate in a collaborative, performance-focused ensemble. This opportunity comes with a $2000 Fall Scholarship. Students who would like to also perform on a band instrument for the basketball pep band in the Spring, can earn an additional $2000 in scholarship. No experience is necessary.
All members of the Auxiliary Team will be asked to contribute in visual capacities that enhance the overall performance and presentation of the ensemble. This group is designed to be flexible and adaptable, allowing performers with diverse movement and performance backgrounds to contribute meaningfully to the marching band experience. Responsibilities may include equipment work (such as flags, rifles or sabres), visual staging elements, coordinated movement and other performance elements as determined by the needs of the production and the Director of Bands. Opportunities on this team exist for performers with experience in dance, baton, flag and related visual arts.
Samford University Majorettes
The Samford University Majorettes perform alongside the Samford Athletic Bands, adding visual energy and tradition to band performances. Their mission is to grow and excel beyond expectations as performers while placing an added emphasis on the “more” in their lives. While technical excellence and performance quality are essential, majorettes are also encouraged to grow personally, academically, and spiritually, recognizing that there is much more expected of them beyond the field.
