The Mid-South Educational Research Association (MSERA) accepted 11 research proposals that were submitted by Orlean Beeson School of Education’s Ed.D. in Educational Leadership program. Doctoral candidates will present their original research at the 2018 MSERA fall conference to be held in Pensacola Beach, Florida November 7-9.

The accepted proposals represent the work of fifteen Doctor of Educational Leadership candidates, five Educational Leadership faculty members and two adjunct faculty members. The number of accepted proposals and candidate-faculty involvement exceeds all previous participation for the education school at MSERA conferences. Upon submission, all proposals are blind peer-reviewed by qualified researchers.

The theme for the 2018 annual meeting is “Waves of Change: The Continuous Need for Educational Research.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our doctoral candidates to share their research in a respected professional arena,” said Orlean Beeson School of Education interim dean Bonnie Lee Rabe. “We are immensely proud of this display of scholarship in education.”

Research topics span across a variety of subjects in education, including issues like chronic absenteeism in Alabama high schools and behavior management preparedness for educators in Alabama. Other research topics covered global matters such as an analysis of the common educational experiences of students in selected top performing Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) countries.

Reviewers complemented the importance and relevance of the research topics. Many proposals were described as “excellent” and the candidates were commended for their clear articulation of findings.

“It is important that we provide scholarship opportunities at multiple levels,” said Rabe. “We seek to equip our Ed.D. candidates to make a positive influence in education policy and practice worldwide. We believe that can only be obtained through preparation in both practice and scholarship.”
