Samford University hosted the Southeastern Council on Family Relations (SECFR) Collaborative Symposium on Thursday, April 24. The theme of the event, “Improving Public Policy through the Lifespan for Families in the Southeast,” focused on public policy as it regards children, elders and their families both nationally and within the Southeast region.

Students in School of Education’s Family Policy and Law class presented posters based on research conducted throughout the school year. Student presenters included: Katelyn Poole, Kathleen Nolin, Taylor Nix, Halle Webb, Jordan Webb, Chelsea Smisek, Rebekah Grubbs, Daniele Spears, Carly Cate, Macy Conger, Katelin Rankin and Caroline Tudor.

Additional student presenters included: Meredith Hunter, Audrey Workman, Kelsey Whitley, Melody Martinez, Nicole Smith, Kathryn Capps, India Stallings, Elizabeth Donlon, Taylor Bartuska, Lindsay Caddell, Alle Singleton, Chelsea Green, Hanna Weaver, Sarah Enoch, Lindy Williamson, Blaise Bowman, Brittany Farr, Karlyn Pugh and Elyse Raveill.

Dr. Kristie Chandler, chair of the human development and family life education department, also presented research along with Susan Kalinich, Dr. Clara Gerhardt and Dr. Celeste Hill.

The SECFR is an affiliate of the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) which has reviewed and recognized the human development and family science undergraduate degree program as meeting the standards and criteria required for the professional Certified Family Life Education (CFLE) designation from the NCFR.
