Additional career options in education are now available through a new graduate level degree program at Samford University.

Samford’s University's board of trustees approved a Master of Science in Educational Leadership: Policy, Organizations and Leadership for the Beeson School of Education.

The program is designed for domestic and international students interested in working within educational settings ranging from public and private K-12 and post secondary organizations, to nonprofit organizations striving to make a difference in schooling.

Samford will offer a series of courses helping students gain an in-depth understanding of educational organizations and expand their leadership knowledge in a wide array of cultural contexts. Students will learn how cultural factors shape policy, while strengthening skills in areas like fundraising, and program and policy development.

Associate Education Professor Dr. Mark Bateman believes the new program will attract a wide range of students interested in learning all facets of education. “Because this program doesn’t just focus on those who desire to be a school administrator,” Bateman said, “we can serve more broadly those who have a passion in education within different settings.”

Courses are offered at flexible times to accommodate those working part-time or full-time, Bateman added. The first cohort is scheduled to begin Fall 2014, and applications for admission are available now.

Samford’s Educational Leadership department also offers a master’s degree in instructional leadership, educational specialist degree in instructional leadership and a doctorate in educational leadership.
