As the oldest and largest division, Howard College of Arts and Sciences is the historic heart of Samford University. We provide a broad liberal arts education rooted in Christian thought and practice to all undergraduate students through our traditional and interdisciplinary programs in the humanities, behavioral and social sciences and STEM. Our majors offer the flexibility to explore your passions and discover your purpose while gaining the skills and knowledge needed to excel in various professions and adapt to a changing job market. Humanities
Understand What it Means to Be Human
Ponder, question and analyze what it means to be human through the Humanities. This area of study encompasses our departments of Biblical and Religious Studies, Classics and Philosophy, English, History and World Languages and Cultures. You will engage with language, literature, art and critical thought that help you understand human expression and cultivate perceptive and innovative thinking, effective communication and a compassionate understanding for others.
Behavioral and Social Sciences
Examine Human Behavior and Society
Investigate human behavior, culture and society through the Behavioral and Social Sciences, which include the departments of Communication and Media, Geography and Sociology, Psychology and Political Science. You will explore various aspects of human social phenomena, including how people interact and how social and economic systems, beliefs and values shape our lives.
STEM
Explore How the World Works
Understand creation, from the mysteries of the universe to the inner workings of life itself through STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Our departments of Biological and Environmental Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics and Math and Computer Science teach you how to solve problems, make advancements and meet societal demands through observation, hypothesizing, data analysis, and experimentation.
