Wynn Fellow

Stephanie Wynn, Samford University Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing professor and assistant dean for scholarly activity, has been named a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP).

According to the American Journal of Nurse Practitioners, Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) is the highest professional designation for a nurse practitioner. The honor is bestowed to less than one percent of American Association of Nurse Practitioner (AANP) members.

To be considered for fellowship, a candidate must have made a significant impact on the profession through the areas of research, clinical practice, education and policy.

In addition to roles as professor and assistant dean for scholarly activity, Wynn serves as the director of the Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing Nurse Practitioner Residency Program and coordinator of the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner track which is available at the masters, doctoral and certificate level. She also developed several pathways to assist Veteran students in obtaining a bachelor of science in nursing and led efforts to integrate telehealth into the school’s curriculum.

“I am thrilled that Dr. Wynn has been recognized by AANP,” said Jane Martin, Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing interim dean. “During her tenure she has vastly improved and positively impacted our nursing programs. Since her appointment as assistant dean of scholarly activity, she has increased our grant funding by more than 50% including a $3.5 million nurse practitioner residency grant that was the largest in Samford University’s history. In addition, her contributions to the greater nursing community are vast.”

Wynn is dual certified as a psychiatric mental health and family nurse practitioner and has a wide-range of clinical experience in underserved populations, which includes the provision of education, counseling and treatment to minority and disadvantaged patients in various settings. In addition to her service to Samford, she volunteers at a non-profit clinic where she is the sole behavioral health provider and provides free care for residents of seven counties designated as medically underserved areas.

As a fellow, Wynn will work alongside other FAANP members to further the profession, develop future leaders and enhance the mission of AANP.

“I value the chance to use my skills to grow diverse leaders who are well-prepared to promote quality health care and embrace transformation to move the health profession forward,” said Wynn. “I am truly honored to be recognized among such a distinct group of nurse practitioners.”
