Class of 2022 graduate Heather Krebel has been accepted into the Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF).

In this prestigious program, teachers are placed in public schools across France to teach English for seven months.

“I have been studying French for three years now, a majority of my knowledge coming from my time at Samford,” Krebel said. “My professors were the ones who introduced me to this program and highly encouraged me to look into it.”

Each year, the program welcomes 1,500 American citizens and permanent residents to teach in across all regions of metropolitan France and in the overseas departments of France such as French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion.

Krebel will be teaching in Grenoble, a small city in southeastern France at the foot of the Alps.

“When I learned that I could choose my preferences for region and education level in the program, I decided to apply,” Krebel said. “As my professors told me, I’m at a time in my life where I can travel and learn outside of the country. I can’t wait to progress more in French and learn more about the country during my time there.”

Krebel said that her French minor and the department at Samford helped pave the way to this accomplishment.

“Samford has undoubtedly given me the confidence to move out of my comfort zone and try something new,” she said. “My professors in particular encouraged me in my capabilities as a French speaker and as an overall individual, which I will carry forward as I prepare for this next part of my career.”
