Samford University’s Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences will host eminent polar marine biologist James McClintock for the virtual 3rd annual Howell-McLaughlin Distinguished Research Lecture April 15 at 7 p.m. via public Zoom meeting. McClintock, a professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, will present "From Penguins to Plankton – the Dramatic Impacts of Climate Change on the Antarctic Peninsula" in a public online event (passcode 6p138d) honoring emerita Samford biology professors William "Mike" Howell and Ellen McLaughlin.
McClintock is a prolific scholar and a Fellow in the prestigious Explorer’s Club. He and his research collaborators are among the world’s authorities on Antarctic marine chemical ecology and drug discovery, and have developed an award-winning interactive educational outreach web site (UAB In Antarctica). McClintock’s book Lost Antarctica: Adventures in a Disappearing Land earned international praise.
