Samford computer science student Logan Casperson completed a National Science Foundation-sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at the University of North Texas (UNT) this summer. Pandemic mitigation efforts complicated things, but Casperson was able to participate in the career-building experience remotely.
The UNT project– Software Assurance and Security in Emerging Technologies– was focused on software quality assurance, and had participants from throughout the country working in teams. Casperson’s team of four students compared various code coverage tools for Android application development. Meeting online every day to discuss their project, they eventually produced a research paper–Empirical Analysis of Android Code Coverage Tools.
“This was a great experience as it allowed me to gain exposure to a research environment, network with other students and learn new skills pertaining to software development” Casperson said. “It showed me that research and software development is something that I would like to continue in the future.”
