Samford University's Howard College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Assembly approved the following special resolution during its final meeting of the disrupted 2020 spring semester.

Howard College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Assembly Resolution Expressing Gratitude for Samford University’s Response to COVID-19

Whereas on January 30, 2020, Samford University’s administration began communicating with Samford employees about the threat of COVID-19;

Whereas on February 26, 2020, Samford University Provost instructed Samford faculty to be prepared to move all courses on-line if necessary;

Whereas members of Samford University Faculty Success Collaborative, employees of Samford University Technology in Learning Center, and Samford University librarians responded to the Provost’s instruction quickly by providing digital materials, advice about copyright law, training sessions for using the Canvas on-line course management system, and many other resources;

Whereas we regard the support for teaching and student advising from the Provost’s Office and other Samford University’s administrative officers, the office of Dana Basinger, Samford University Faculty Success Collaborative, Samford University Technology in Learning Center, and Samford University librarians to be extraordinary during this time;

Resolved, that members of the Faculty Assembly of the Howard College of Arts and Sciences of Samford University:

  1. applaud these entities and their individual members for their work;
  2. express gratitude for their labors; and
  3. offer prayers for the continued health and safety of all.
