Samford student Surafel Krubel has been honored with the Dorothy G. Baker Campus Leadership Award of the Birmingham Chapter of The United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA).

The honor, one of several announced at the annual Birmingham United Nations Day Banquet Oct. 17, recognizes Krubel for his achievement and leadership at Model United Nations conferences in New York, Spain, Washington and Switzerland.

Samford fields an award-winning Model UN team each year, led by Samford political science professor Serena Simoni. The team is competing in the ROMUN Conference in Rome, Italy, Nov. 4-9.

UNA-USA is a membership organization dedicated to inform, inspire and mobilize the American people to support the ideals and vital work of the United Nations. The Greater Birmingham Chapter of the organization, chartered in 1992, has as its mission the creation of programs and activities that stimulate public discussion of international affairs and encourage support for a better United Nations.
