Samford Geography Department professor and chair Eric Fournier has received the 2011 Excellence in Teaching Award of the SouthEastern Division of the Association of American Geographers (SEDAAG).

SEDAAG is a regional subdivision of the Association of American Geographers, representing over 550 members in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.  Established in 1947, SEDAAG exists to advance investigations in geography and to encourage the application of geographic findings in education, government, and business.

SEDAAG was the first professional organization Fournier joined, in 1990. "I have been an active participant in the organization ever since, and I consider the members of SEDAAG to be my truest group of peers among professional geographers, Fournier said.  "Having [the award] come from a group that has been so important in my academic life makes it extra special".
