Samford alumnus Michael Deen '08 graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in history. He went on to pursue a career in law, attending law school at Barry University. Deen, along with some of his fellow students on Barry’s Trial Team, won the Michigan State University National Trial Advocacy Competition on Oct. 24, 2010. A total of 26 teams from around the United States competed in the mock trial. Deen was described as delivering the closing argument "like a true prosecutor". Presiding Judge Rosemary Acquilina, a circuit court judge for Ingham County, Michigan, named Deen "the man to watch". Other schools in attendance were William and Mary, Emory, University of Alabama, and Cal Western law schools.
