Junior Biochemistry Major Alyssa Whitehead continues to reap the benefits of a $10,000 Department of Homeland Security scholarship she earned in high school. Whitehead was recognized for her "outstanding achievement in experimental research" at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Atlanta, Ga. in 2008. She then enrolled at Samford, with its emphasis on undergraduate research, and is planning to use half of the scholarship to support own research project in summer 2011.
