Kelly Jensen discovered her love for teaching as a teacher’s assistant. Before that, her grandparents traveled around the world and brought her gifts that fostered her interest in different cultures and languages. She joined Samford's faculty in 2000, impressed by the university's small student-to-faculty ratio and the quality of the World Languages program. She currently teaches Human rights in Latin American Literature, Spanish for Business, a seminar Course on Spanish music, Freedom and Repression in Latin American Literature and a Spanish literature-based language and comprehension class. She admires how the environment at Samford allows her to connect with her student on both an academic and spiritual level. Her favorite part about teaching Spanish is introducing new ideas to students and listening to their perspectives in class.
Jensen is fascinated with how humans define nationality, how we enact nationalism, and how she can help her students connect to Latin American literature and culture.
Apart from teaching Spanish and Latin American culture, Jensen is an avid hand bell player and enjoys being outdoors, traveling and experiencing other cultures.
