Basma was born and raised in Amman, Jordan. She graduated from Jordan University with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition/Diet Therapy. After graduation, Basma taught Home Economics at Amman Baptist School. She, her husband (a Pharmacy graduate of Samford University), and their four children moved to Hoover, Alabama in 2002. Since moving to Alabama, she has volunteered for a variety of organizations such as UAB HealthSmart and Gwin Elementary School. She works for the UAB Hospital System as an interpreter. In her free time, Basma enjoys cooking, socializing over coffee or tea, and shopping. She thoroughly enjoys teaching and is happy to have the opportunity to share her knowledge of the Arabic language and culture with students.
